About 2048
2048 is the classic sliding number puzzle. Every move pushes all the tiles on the 4×4 board in one direction, and when two tiles with the same number collide they merge into one with double the value: 2 and 2 make 4, 4 and 4 make 8, all the way up to 2048.
After each move a new 2 or 4 appears in an empty cell, so the board keeps filling up. The game ends when no move is left, and you win when you build the 2048 tile — then you can keep going to chase an even higher score. A timer starts with your first move, so you can also try to reach 2048 faster than last time.
Your best score and your current game are saved in your browser, so you can close the page and pick up exactly where you left off.
How to play
Use the arrow keys or swipe to slide every tile on the board in one direction. Two tiles with the same number merge into one and add their value to your score. Reach the 2048 tile to win; the game is over when the board is full and no tiles can merge.

Tips
- Pick a corner and keep your biggest tile there for the whole game.
- Avoid the direction that would pull your big tile out of its corner, and use it only when nothing else works.
- Keep the row next to your big tile full and in order, so merges chain towards the corner.
- Merge small tiles early: a board full of 2s and 4s fills up fast.
