Line up three X's in a row against the computer or a friend on the same screen in this quick, free Tic Tac Toe game for your browser.

About Tic Tac Toe

Tic Tac Toe is the timeless game of X's and O's, played on a bright 3×3 grid. Take turns placing your mark and be the first to get three in a row horizontally, vertically or diagonally. When someone wins, the winning line lights up in yellow, and a full board with no line ends in a draw.

There are two ways to play. In 1 Player mode you are X and the computer answers with an O a moment after each of your moves, choosing a random free square, so it is a relaxed opponent that is great for kids and beginners. Flip the switch to 2 Players and you and a friend take turns on the same phone, tablet or computer.

Every round lasts less than a minute, which makes it perfect for a quick break or a friendly rematch.

How to play

Players take turns placing X and O on the 3×3 grid, and X always goes first. The first player to get three marks in a row, column or diagonal wins. If all nine squares are filled with no line, the game is a draw; press New game to play again.

Tips

  • Take the center square on your first move: it is part of four possible lines.
  • Corners are the next best squares, since each one belongs to three lines.
  • Try to create two threats at once so your opponent can only block one of them.
  • Always check whether your opponent has two in a row before making your own move.
